Lanvin's Collection for H&M Finally Hits Stores!
Count down is almost over. Women everywhere are sharpening their elbows, practicing their snarls, perfecting their sick-day alibis. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then all I can say is stop reading this now, and stay well away from H&M. If you find yourself caught up in a mad stampede on your nearest high-street: don’t say I didn’t warn you. And stampedes there will be, because from 9 am tomorrow, the collection that every fashion-loving person has been waiting for will finally be available: That’s right, It’s Lanvin for H&M.
You’ve got to hand it to them, the Swedish company know how to get the crowds in. In the past few years, they’ve managed to collaborate with some of the biggest names in fashion: Sonia Rykiel, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor and Rolf, Stella McCartney, and in doing so creating mass-hysteria every time those collections hit the rails.
Nothing, however, compares to the hype around Alber Elbaz’s designs for the High Street chain. Fashion editors have gone wild, best-sellers have already been predicted. From the preview available at h&m.com, you can understand where they’re coming from; it looks too good to be true: stunning cocktail dresses, kooky accessories, prints, ruffles…the much loved fashion houses signature style at prices that mere mortals can actually afford! It only remains to be seen whether the creations will stand-up to closer inspection. As excited as I am, I never the less have doubts as to whether or not it is possible to mass produce the designs of a fashion house famed for its detailing and expert cuts from cheap and synthetic materials…
Having said that, I’ve already picked out my favourites and am quite determined to get in there early if not to buy, then at least to get close enough to the garments to have a look before they fly off the shelves. Because fly they will, for it is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman exposed to the words “limited collection” and “designer/celebrity collaboration” loses all sense of taste and good judgement in the face of her purchases (see success of Kate Moss’s weirder items for Top Shop)…
The looks I’ll be elbowing my way to:
