France's first Lady set to take over Hollywood?
France's first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy get's her screen debut in Woody Allen's latest film 'Midnight in Paris'. She appears ever so briefly, yet radiantly in a scene of the cult American director's 45th feature, where she plays an art historian taking some american tourists around gardens of the Rodin museum.
The romantic comedy, starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams as a young American couple travelling to Paris is set to open the Cannes film festival on 11th May. The cast is absolutely tremendous as it also includes Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen, Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and last but not least French stars Marion Cotillard and Gad Elmaleh.
The trailer is pretty much what you would expect from a Woody Allen film : an oh-so-romantic depiction of Paris resting on delightful clichés, from the accordion-based trailer's soundtrack to the collection of the main Parisian tourist sights. No doubt it will be a great success among Francophiles all over the world, as it perfectly reflects the image they have of the City of Light.
And if we retain anything from watching this trailer, it is undoubtedly that the 43-year-old wife of French President Nikolas Sarkozy speaks much better English than her husband (though some might say this is hardly a great achievement).
