Thriller Sarah Morton, an English successful thriller writer, goes to the Luberon in France to work and rest. The daughter of her editor arrives one day and will disturbe the writer's peacefulness. "Sarah Morton (Rampling,THE CHERRY ORCHARD), a best-selling English mystery writer, travels to her publisher's (Dance, GOSFORD PARK) holiday home in Provence intending to work and rest. But the sudden arrival of Julie (Sagnier, 8 WOMEN), her publisher's perpetually naked French daughter, ensures that work and rest are absolutely out of the question. Reuniting the prolific Ozon (SITCOM,WATER DROPS ON BURNING ROCKS) with his UNDER THE SAND co-star Rampling and writer Emmanuele Bernheim (also responsible for Claire Denis' VENDIREDI SOIR), SWIMMING POOL certainly ranks amongst his very best work. Visually lush, often provocatively self-reflexive and characteristically pregnant with metaphor, it is perhaps the remarkable performances that elevate the film to the higher echelons in Ozon's impressive canon. As the priggish Morton, Rampling gives a classy masterclass whilst the alluring and coquettish Sagnier offers further proof of her future star status." (Curzon) Year of release in the UK: 2003
