Hollywood's finest actors performed live on camera to make Tom Hooper's Les Misérables. The film is based on Victor Hugo's novel and uses the lyrics from London's longest running musical of the same name. "Les Mis" as it is often referred to, has been seen to date by over 60 million people since it was first on stage in October 1985. A real winner which will no doubt be another success story for Tom Hooper.
This is not good for French Cinema. The nominations for the Oscars have just been announced and Amour of Michael Anneke is the only French film to have been nominated. Amour with Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva and Isabelle Huppert won the Palme d’Or in 2012. Today it has been selected to compete in a number of major categories: Best Film, Best Foreign Film, Best Scenario, Best Director and to top it all, Emmanuelle Riva now aged 85 is also running for the Best Actress Academy Award.
