The Bovary Tale
From 02/09/2009 to 12/09/2009 at 23:59
Upstairs at the Gatehouse
A musical based on Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. The Bovary Tale is the tragic story of Charles Bovary, country doctor, and his double widowhood. His tale is told by Lheureux, supplier of goods and credit to the people of Yonville, in rural Normandy. On the death of Charles’s frugal first wife, he is drawn to take another: the spendthrift Emma, whose decadent affairs and obsession with Paris fashion leave her laden with unmanageable debts. The performance features an opera aria from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

Oh The Bovary Tale provided for a marvelous evening full of laughter and clapping and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. However as a regular opera goer I thought that the opera aria, taken from Lucia di Lammermoor, was appalling and badly executed and should have been left out. It just didn't live up to the rest of the music and really dragged the whole performance down.
But since that only took up 3 minutes of the whole show, I can honestly say I'd come again!
